jeden.day – habit tracker
A Habitica alternative without the game
Habitica turns habits into a role-playing game: checking a task off earns experience and gold, missing one costs health, and a party of friends shares the consequences. That works for many people. If you would rather keep the record and drop the game, this page sets out how jeden.day differs, and where Habitica still has more.
What Habitica is
Habitica, by HabitRPG, Inc., is an open-source task manager with three task types: Habits, clicked plus or minus whenever they happen; Dailies, which repeat on a schedule and damage your avatar when missed; and To-Dos. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, and layers an avatar, levels, pets, gear, parties, guilds and challenges over the tasks. It is free, with an optional subscription and purchasable gems.
Why people look for an alternative
Usually not because Habitica is bad at what it does, but because what it does is a game. Some find the avatar and the damage motivating; others find that, after the novelty, the record of the habit is what they actually wanted and the rest is upkeep.
Three practical wishes come up as well. A goal like "three times a week, any days" is a quota, and Habitica's Dailies are scheduled on named days or every X days rather than on a count. A habit with a number and a target — read 20 pages, walk 8,000 steps — has no place in a task that is checked off. And a tracker you can try before you create an account.
How jeden.day is different
It is a grid: one row per habit, one column per day, today on the left, five days on a phone screen. Marking a day is one tap. There are no points, no avatar and no consequences beyond the record itself.
Schedules can be quotas or named days. "3 times per week" draws a bracket under the week and fills it as you go; "on Monday, Wednesday and Friday," "every 3 days" and "on the 1st and 15th" mark the due days in the cells. Today stays open until it ends, so an unmarked today never breaks a streak, and a day you deliberately skip does not count against it.
Goals can point down as well as up. "Sweets at most twice a week" records only the days it happened and treats a quiet day as kept; "at most 2,000 kcal a day, with two days a week over it" is one habit. Measurable habits carry a number and a target per day, or a total per week or month.
You can use all of it without an account. Signing in — an emailed link or code, then a passkey if you like — adds sync between devices and a one-file download of everything, and you decide whether your guest habits join the account. The guide covers the details.
What Habitica has that jeden.day does not
Reminders and notifications, native iOS and Android apps with widgets, to-do lists beside the habits, and the whole social layer: parties, guilds, challenges, and the pull of not letting a party down. jeden.day is a web app you open, and it never messages you. If the nudge is the part that works for you, that is a real difference, not a footnote.

| Weekly or monthly totals (“35,000 steps a week”) | YesEverything recorded in the period adds up against one target. | No |
| Today stays open; skip a day | YesAn unmarked today never breaks a streak; a skipped day is neutral. | PartlyUnchecked Dailies cost health when the day rolls over; resting in the Inn pauses that. |

Questions
Can I import my Habitica data?
Not directly. Habitica exports your history as CSV or JSON, and jeden.day imports only its own export format, so habits are re-created by hand. Most people start the new grid fresh and keep the old export as an archive.
Is jeden.day gamified at all?
No. A streak counts consecutive satisfied days or periods and the year view shows the pattern; that is the whole of it. There are no points, levels or rewards.
Does jeden.day have a party or accountability feature?
No. Each account is one person's record. If shared accountability is what keeps you going, Habitica's parties and challenges do that and jeden.day does not.
Is it free?
jeden.day is currently free to use. Paid features may be added in the future.
