jeden.day – habit tracker
A habit tracker with one daily reminder
Reminders in most trackers are a second schedule to maintain: a time per habit, a snooze, a quiet-hours setting. jeden.day sends one notification a day instead, at a time you choose, listing the habits that are due today and not yet recorded. If nothing is left, nothing is sent. The schedule you gave each habit is the only schedule the reminder follows.
One notification, not one per habit
The reminder is a single message that names your outstanding habits for the day. A habit on Monday, Wednesday and Friday appears on those days; one counted "three times a week" appears while that week is still short of three. Marking a day done takes the habit off the list, and so does marking it skipped, which is your way of saying "not today".
A habit you are trying to keep under a limit is never named. For those, a good day is a day with no entry, so there is nothing to remind you of. The message is delivered as a browser notification through Web Push; there is no email reminder.
Two settings, and everything else is per device or per habit
Open the account menu and choose Reminders… to pick the time of day and your time zone. The zone starts from what your browser reports and keeps following it when you travel; choose one by hand and it stays where you put it.
Reminders are turned on per device. The dialog lists the devices that receive them and lets you switch any of them off; switching off the last one turns reminders off altogether. A single habit can be left out of the message from its editor with Include in daily reminder. Send a test shows you what a notification looks like before the first real one arrives.
On a phone
The first time you turn a device on, the browser asks whether this site may show notifications. On Android, that works from the browser or from the installed web app. On an iPhone or iPad, Web Push works only from the app added to your Home Screen: open the share menu, choose Add to Home Screen, and turn reminders on from there.
Why the schedule is the reminder
A reminder that fires on a rest day teaches you to dismiss it. Because the message is built from each habit's own schedule, a habit that is not due today is not in it, and a habit you have already recorded is not in it either. A day on which everything is done produces no notification at all.
That also keeps the reminder honest about what it can do. It cannot remind you at different times for different habits, snooze, or repeat later in the evening. If you want a nudge at a particular hour, set the one time to that hour and let the list do the rest. Reminders need an account; the guest grid has no server to send anything.
Questions
Can I set a different reminder time for each habit?
No. There is one time of day for the whole account, and one message at that time. Which habits it names comes from their schedules and from what you have already recorded, not from a per-habit setting.
What happens if I miss the notification?
Nothing is sent again that day. The habits stay outstanding in the grid, where the day is still open until it ends, and the next day's message names whatever is due then.
Do I need to remind myself about a habit that is not daily?
The reminder handles that. A habit due on selected weekdays is named only on those days; a quota such as three times a week is named while the week still has fewer than three entries. The non-daily habits page explains those schedules.
