jeden.day – habit tracker
A habit tracker with a note on every day
A grid of checkmarks tells you what happened; it cannot tell you why. jeden.day lets every day of every habit carry a short note, up to 280 characters, whether that day was done, skipped, or missed. A gap with "flu, all week" written on it is a week you were ill. The same gap with nothing on it is only a gap.
Write a note on any day
Press and hold a cell to open that day's panel; on a habit that tracks an amount, a plain tap opens it. The panel holds the Note box, with the amount controls above it where there are any, and Clear day, Skip day and Save in the row at the foot. Write the line and save. Days carrying a note show a small mark in the corner of the cell, and the text appears when you open the day or rest the pointer on that day in the year view.

A note on a missed day is still a missed day
The note is the one thing you can write on a day you did not do the habit. It changes nothing about the score: the day stays missed and counts as missed, but the reason sits beside it. If the day should not count at all, mark it with Skip day and add the note to say why; a skipped day is neutral for the streak.
That separation is deliberate. A note that quietly excused a day would make the record say what you wished had happened. Keeping the mark and the explanation apart lets you be honest in both.
What a short line is good for
Which book, which route, which chapter. Whether the run was easy or the practice went badly. The name of the person you called. A number that does not fit the habit's own amount, such as the weight on a set. At a weekly review, the notes distinguish a changed timetable from a forgotten entry.
What counts as doing the habit belongs somewhere else: the habit's Description, in its editor, holds up to 1,000 characters and is shown in the habit's summary and on its year-view card. "Audiobooks count" is a description; "finished chapter 4" is a note.
Notes stay with your data
Notes are part of the record, not a separate journal. Your data export, one JSON file with every habit and its history, includes them, and the same file can be imported again. A connected AI agent can write a day's note as well, so "log today's run, 10k along the river" records the amount and the line together.
Questions
How long can a note be?
Up to 280 characters, one per habit per day. It is meant for a line, not an entry in a journal. A longer reflection belongs in your own notebook; the note can point at it.
Can I search or filter my notes?
No. Notes are read where they were written: in the day's panel, on hover in the year view, and in the export file. There is no list of notes, no tags, and no search.
Does a note make a missed day count as done?
No. A note alone leaves the day exactly as it was. To take a day out of the streak entirely, mark it skipped; to record the habit, mark it done or enter the amount.
